Modifying the pedals

Our X-Box needs to recieve input from the arcade-cabinets pedals.

We opened one of the pedal-sets and was dissapointed by an extremely weak plastic-contstruction. Plastic-fantastic still rings in my head... A big "THUMBS DOWN!" go out to Thrustmaster for selling these "My First Sony"-products.

We can't use the pedals as they are now, but let's check out what our starting point is.

Plastic, plastic and MORE plastic... A normal kid will break this in weeks!

Simple construction. When the pedal is moved forwards, the tags on pedal twists the potentiometer.

The pedals in our arcade-cabinet works the same way, but with proper springs and a sturdy construction. It's built solid to withstand years of arcade-abuse. The potentionmeters in the Thrustmaster pedals was 5k ohm, while the arcade ones are 30k, lets just swap them, or..?

Here's the potentiometer in our arcade-pedals. A little dusty but that's all, still works great after 8 years...

The potentiometer-mounts had to be modified a bit, using a careful hand.. And a big drill! After modifying the mounts it's plug, adjust and play! We now have working pedals! Let's celebrate!
